After tasting a back-vintage bottle of L’Avenir Pinotage, we were fumbling for the phone to get L’Avenir on the line and see if they had more - obviously we were in luck, and so are you! This 2013 vintage is drinking at it’s prime right now, young enough to show some primary fruits with the acidity still going strong, but with enough time developing in the bottle to bring out some of the subtler, tertiary tobacco and licorice notes. We’ve tasted a 1999 and it still had so much life in it so if you want to keep this one longer, those tertiary qualities will still develop wonderfully.
Nose & Palate
A wonderfully complex nose of red and blackberries, tobacco and dried herbs. The palate still shows brooding fruit mingling with a strong licorice undertone and the characteristic sweet spiciness of Pinotage.
Pairing
A fine choice for Peking duck. Also is an excellent pair with gamey meats, try ostrich fillet with a cranberry reduction.
