This wine has an incredible story. After attending a tasting held by Serge Hochar of Chateau Musar in 2014, winemaker Jocelyn Hogan Wilson was mesmerized by the elegance and power of his wines. Jocelyn was so moved, she diverged (hence the name) from her original plan and decided to create this unusual blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan that Serge Hochar had been creating for a lifetime. While most previous vintages have comprised roughly equal parts of each varietal, the 2022 sees this move to 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cinsault, and 25% Carrignan. Different varietals were pressed separately and spent 8 months in barrel before blending. 13.5% Alcohol.
Nose & Palate
The nose shows notes of wild-berry fruit, violets, spice and scented shrubs (fynbos). Juicy and fresh on the palate with great clarity, and fine-but-grippy tannins that are harmoniously balanced with a savoury finish. Fine and expressive with a wonderful gravity from the higher Cabernet Sauvignon blend.
Pairing
This is a wine blend of Lebanese heritage so naturally it pairs incredibly well with Lebanese food. Try beef or lamb schwarma with Tabbouleh.

About the Winery
Hogan Wines is a small family business spearheaded by winemaker Jocelyn Hogan Wilson. After years working with various wineries, Jocelyn teamed up with her parents to take part in the winemaking revolution of shifting emphasis back to the farmers and focusing attention on small batches of wine.
Hogan selects grapes from vineyards around the Western Cape with ideal climates and soils for the specific varietals, and naturally produces wines with minimal interference. The result is a bottle of wine that contains a unique story of its vintage and showcases the best South Africa has to offer.
